5 Reasons Why You Should Have A First Look

Wedding Tips

July 17, 2018

Couples everywhere are mulling over the decision of whether or not to have a first look. It’s definitely a controversial topic in the wedding industry, and ultimately you two are the only ones that can decide if it’s right for you. There is something traditional and even a little bit magical about having your first look be on the aisle, but there are plenty of positive things about a private first look too!

Here are 5 reasons you should have a first look:

1. You both can take in the moment when you walk in.

Walking down the aisle is one of those moments you can’t get back. It’s one of the most special moments of the day, but in a blink of an eye it’s gone. One of the best reasons you should have a first look is so that you can fully take in that moment walking down the aisle. You can look at your sweetheart without all of the anxious and excited feelings, but also you can look around you–lock eyes with your grandmother, wave at your college roommate, smile, laugh, enjoy that moment to the fullest.

2. It lessens your nerves for the ceremony.

Even if you don’t think you’ll be nervous on the wedding day– chances are you will be. You’re making the biggest commitment you ever could to the person of your dreams. It’s romantic, it’s exhilarating, and it also will make you want to throw up a bit. Chances are, having a few moments of pure bliss before the ceremony with your hubby will help calm some of those pre-ceremony nerves.

3. It will ease your wedding day schedule.

What’s not to like about as relaxed schedule on your wedding day? It gives you plenty of time to take pictures with your full bridal party, get some sweet couple shots, or take photos with family all before the ceremony. After the ceremony you can take more couple shots, some family pics, or enjoy your cocktail hour with your guests.

4. The intimacy of the moment.

Your first look can be one of the most intimate moments of the day. It can be just you two, or you two and your photographer. If you keep it simple, you have no pressure to react a certain way or say certain things. The first look gives you time to hug, kiss, stand in total excitement of the day ahead of you. It’s a special moment you could have at the ceremony, but it definitely won’t be as intimate.

5. The photos!

This one is my favorite reason! First looks produce the cutest photos. The first look holds some of the sweetest moments of the day, which means it’s a given that you’ll end up with some amazing candid photos (and they’ll probably be some of your favorites of the day). Don’t overlook this reason when deciding to do a first look or not.
